KT McCaffrey also known as Kevin McCaffrey acquired the name ‘KT’ during the 1990s when he started writing crime novels. His publicist at the time thought that changing his screenwriter name from Kevin to KT would appeal greater to a female audience! The name has stuck with him ever since! KT McCaffrey has always had a keen interest in all things creative such as music, writing, graphic design, amateur drama, art and painting!
His early years
KT McCaffrey spent his childhood living in Clara, County Offaly on his parents farm. From a very young age KT did not enjoy the tough farming lifestyle of the early 1950s and would instead spend his time listening to the new explosion of american Rock N Roll. Musical legends such as Elvis Presley, Chuck Berry, Buddy Holly, Jerry Lee Lewis and Johnny Cash formed the soundtrack of KT’s teenage years. This new age of Rock N Roll inspired KT towards a life long journey of creativity and wild imagination!
At 17, KT left the rural landscapes of County Offaly, moving to Loughlinstown in south County Dublin where he worked as a barman while attending the National College of Art and Design (NCAD) in Dublin. During his college years KT studied to gain a degree in arts along with fellow art students Phil Lynott of Thin Lizzy and ???.
The path to creativity
KT graduated from the National College of Art and Design and set up his own company of graphic design. For over 25 years KT ran several successful Graphic Design studios, one of which still exists today called Sourcedesign.
Soon after setting up his first graphic design studio, KT moved to Leixlip in County Kildare where he became heavily involved in amateur drama producing plays for the Lexlip Theatre Group such as ??? and ???. KT later moved to Dunshaughlin in County Meath where he still currently lives. KT wrote several crime novels and retired from his career in graphic design. As we said earlier it was here as a crime writer, where the name KT McCaffrey was born to appeal to female readers who were the majority market of book sales during that time!
A wild imagination!
As KT was retired, writing crime novels was not enough to keep KT’s imagination flowing!. In 2007 he began painting, going back to his earlier routes as an artist. KT has used his wild imagination to depict abstract scenes and influences throughout his life such as music, dancing, theatre and the arts to fuel his imagination! We can clearly see all these references throughout his artwork.
